Indiana police pursuit ends in fatal shooting in Winamac

The Indiana State Police are investigating a fatal police shooting following a pursuit that ended in Winamac, Pulaski County. The incident began around 1:30 p.m. on September 16, when a Monon police officer responded to a disturbance at the Vanguard National Trailer Corporation in White County.

An officer identified a Chevrolet Colorado truck believed to be involved in the disturbance and attempted to stop it. The driver refused to stop, leading officers on a pursuit through State Road 16 and into Pulaski County via State Road 39. During the chase on State Road 14, the vehicle struck a tire deflation device but continued into Winamac.

The pursuit concluded near the intersection of Monticello Street and 15th Street. According to investigators, the driver exited the vehicle armed with a firearm. Both the suspect and an officer reportedly fired weapons during the encounter. The driver was transported to a hospital, where they were later pronounced dead. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released by the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office.
