Indiana sweepstakes casino ban takes effect July 1 as Louisiana regulators warn of offshore options

Governor Mike Braun signed Indiana’s HB 1052 on March 12, a law that bans the dual‑currency sweepstakes model used by many online casino platforms. The ban becomes effective on July 1, requiring operators to cease serving Indiana residents or face penalties. Platforms such as Modo.us, McLuck, Hello Millions, Jackpota, Mega Bonanza, PlayFame, SpinBlitz, Baba Casino and ACE Casino have announced they will stop accepting Indiana players. The law gave operators about 112 days to notify customers and arrange withdrawals, but it is unclear how many players were informed.

In Louisiana, sweepstakes gambling remains a high‑risk activity but is not outright prohibited. The state hosts more than 20 land‑based and riverboat casinos, yet real‑money online gambling is unavailable. Offshore casino sites are promoted as alternatives for Louisiana players, offering a broader selection of games and payment methods. While state regulators have not banned offshore participation, they caution residents about the legal gray area and advise contacting gambling helplines for assistance.
