Indianapolis Colts defense struggles early in 2026 season
The Indianapolis Colts have struggled defensively through the first two games of the 2026 season, surrendering 1,029 total yards and 74 points. This performance ranks last in the league, including a league-worst 7.2 yards allowed per play. Head coach Shane Steichen expressed full confidence in defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, stating, “I have confidence in Lou, no doubt about it,” and noting that the unit must address issues with missed tackles and coverage.
In contrast to the defensive struggles, the Colts' offense has shown encouraging individual performances. Wide receiver Josh Downs has recorded an 80.8 offensive grade through two weeks, while running back Jonathan Taylor has tallied four touchdowns and 253 yards from scrimmage. Taylor has also demonstrated significant improvement in pass protection, earning an 87.4 grade during the game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
