Social media footage has circulated showing agents, some wearing masks and tactical vests, conducting arrests using unmarked vehicles.

U.S. Representative André Carson has launched an inquiry seeking information from the Department of Homeland Security regarding the scope, authority, and probable cause of these operations. Carson specifically requested details on safeguards intended to protect constitutional rights and physical safety following reports of masked agents and dangerous foot pursuits.

The heightened enforcement has had local economic and social impacts. Some businesses on the Indianapolis Eastside have temporarily closed to protect staff and patrons, while advocacy groups like the Coalition for Our Immigrant Neighbors report an increase in families seeking assistance due to heightened fear and uncertainty.

While U.S. Senator Jim Banks stated that ICE agents have a constitutional responsibility to deport individuals unlawfully, city officials have maintained they have had no role in the enforcement actions. ICE has not officially confirmed an increase in operations in Marion County.
