Indianapolis mother and son die in suspected murder-suicide

Shatayvia Alisha Calderon, 33, and her 9-year-old son, Julian, were found dead from gunshot wounds inside an Indianapolis apartment on Monday afternoon. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department stated the incident is believed to be a murder-suicide.

Officers responded to a 911 call at a condominium complex in the 4400 block of Village Lane around 1 p.m. Upon entering the residence, medical personnel pronounced both victims dead at the scene. A firearm was recovered near the bodies.

Following the incident, social media posts resurfaced showing that Calderon had previously shared a GoFundMe fundraiser in January 2023 to support the family of Lindsay Clancy, who was accused of killing her three children. Calderon had offered financial assistance to Patrick Clancy as he navigated that tragedy.

Authorities have not yet established a motive for the shooting. Investigators noted they have spoken with a cooperative witness, and police officials emphasized the availability of mental health resources for those in the community struggling with similar issues.
