Indianapolis police shooting: Family disputes bodycam evidence

The family of Dalys Jett, a 21-year-old killed by Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers, claims they have not been shown bodycam footage proving Jett fired a weapon during a July 22 incident.

Officers responded to a report of an armed male on the city’s east side. IMPD reports that Jett fired at officers, leading at least three officers to return fire. The exchange resulted in two officers being wounded; while IMPD initially stated both were hit by Jett, a subsequent review indicated one officer was struck by friendly fire and the other by Jett’s weapon.

Jett was struck by police gunfire and later died from his injuries. While investigators recovered a firearm believed to belong to Jett, his family maintains that video evidence of him shooting has not been provided.
