Indianapolis teen mother and father located after newborn found in tree line

Police in Indianapolis discovered a newborn baby in a tree line near Lace Bark Lane and Long Wharf Drive on the city’s east side on July 24. The infant was taken to Riley Hospital for Children and remained in stable condition.

Detectives appealed for community assistance and later located the 16‑year‑old mother, who received medical care. Investigators also arrested 21‑year‑old Hernsley Pierre, charging him with two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor and naming him as the suspected father. Pierre denied paternity and claimed he was unaware of the teen’s age.

The investigation continues as authorities examine the circumstances surrounding the teen’s pregnancy and the baby’s abandonment. Police highlighted the existence of safe‑haven baby boxes and urged anyone with information to contact IMPD’s Child Abuse Division or Crime Stoppers.
