India’s 15‑year‑old prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi dropped after three T20I matches

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the 15‑year‑old Indian batsman, made his international debut on the tour of England, featuring in three T20I games. He scored 14, 13 and 15 runs, totalling 42 runs, before being omitted from the fifth match. Former England spinner Graeme Swann and Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar criticised the decision, saying the youngster needed more nurturing.

Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin defended Sooryavanshi’s talent, calling him “incredible”, but warned that team selection should not bow to social‑media pressure. Ashwin noted the teenager was originally slated to debut against Ireland but was only brought in after Sanju Samson struggled. Sooryavanshi remains in India’s squad for the forthcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe, where he could earn another opportunity.
