India's 16‑year‑old para cyclist Lisha Das selected for 2026 Commonwealth Games

Sixteen‑year‑old para cyclist Lisha Das from Biswanath, Assam, has been chosen to represent India at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, becoming the youngest athlete in the Indian contingent. She will compete in the Para Track Cycling event despite using only one arm.

Das, a Class XI student at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, has amassed a series of medals: gold at the 2025 National Para Road Cycling Championship, two golds at the Lanna Cup, a bronze at the Korat Cup, and two silver and three bronze medals at the 2026 Asian Para Track Championships. International athlete Hridainanda Das praised her achievement, saying, "It is a proud moment for all of us. She is the first athlete from Biswanath to qualify for the Commonwealth Games."

She joins three other athletes from Assam – Olympic boxer Lovlina Borgohain and lawn‑bowls players Nayan Moni Saikia and Putul Sonowal – as part of India's squad for the Games.
