India's 5‑kg LPG cylinder price cut offers Rs 180 discount
On August 1 the Indian government reduced the price of a 5‑kg LPG cylinder to Rs 762, making it Rs 180 cheaper than the standard 14.2‑kg domestic cylinder that remains priced at Rs 942 in Delhi. The discount applies to cylinders sold by public‑sector oil marketing companies under the Free Trade LPG (FTL) scheme, which includes the cost of a domestic pressure regulator and a delivery fee. Consumers can order the mini‑cylinder through a toll‑free number and receive home delivery within two hours in eight cities: Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune.
LPG, CNG and PNG prices across major Indian cities showed only modest variation, while overall LPG consumption has fallen 17.4% as households shift toward piped natural gas. In response, India plans to source up to a quarter of its LPG imports from the United States by 2027 to diversify supply away from the Middle East.
