India's Ambassador to Mongolia Visits UNCCD COP17 Site in Ulaanbaatar
India’s Ambassador to Mongolia, Atul Malhari Gotsurve, inspected the venue for the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Ulaanbaatar on 6 August 2026. He was accompanied by members of the resident diplomatic corps and met Mongolian officials including Minister of Environment and Climate Change T Sandag Ochir and Deputy Foreign Minister G Amartuvshin.
Mongolia will host the UNCCD COP17 from 17‑28 August 2026 under the theme “Restoring Land. Restoring Hope”. The two‑week summit will bring together representatives from the UNCCD’s 197 member states—governments, businesses, civil‑society groups, researchers and pastoral communities—to discuss solutions for land degradation, desertification and drought, coinciding with the UN International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists 2026.
