India's BIS seizes ₹10 crore of non‑hallmarked gold jewellery in Warangal; Hyderabad police arrest gold‑theft suspects
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) conducted a raid on a jewellery store in Warangal, Telangana, seizing 7.875 kg of gold jewellery worth about ₹10 crore for lacking the mandatory BIS hallmark and Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID). BIS officials warned that hallmarked jewellery must display the BIS logo, purity mark and a six‑digit HUID, and urged consumers to verify items via the BIS CARE app.
In a separate incident in Hyderabad, police arrested two brothers after they stole 1.028 kg of gold ornaments—seven necklaces and seven pairs of earrings—from the jewellery export firm Gurukrupa Exports in Banjara Hills. The theft was uncovered using CCTV footage and technical evidence, and the stolen gold was fully recovered.
