India's car exports hit $9 billion in FY26, expanding to new global markets
India’s passenger‑vehicle exports surged to about $9 billion in fiscal year 2025‑26, a 25 % year‑on‑year rise, with 9.05 lakh units shipped – the highest ever. The top destination was South Africa ($1.5 billion, 16.6 % of total), followed by Saudi Arabia ($1.26 billion, 13.9 %) and Mexico ($1.12 billion, 12.4 %). Other notable markets included Japan, the United Arab Emirates, Chile, Spain, Peru, Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom, showing a diversified export basket across Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia.
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India was honoured as the Automobile Top Exporter for FY2025‑26 by the Mumbai Port Authority after exporting more than 40,000 vehicles through the port that year and surpassing 725,000 Indian‑built cars shipped overall. The company highlighted key models such as the Skoda Kushaq, Skoda Slavia, Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus, and noted growing exports of parts and components to markets in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and North America.
