India's CBI Initiates Probes into Model Death and Lawyer Murder Cases

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in India has opened two separate homicide investigations. In Bhopal, the agency sought court approval to obtain voice samples and a laptop password from Samarth Singh and his mother, Giribala Singh, who are in judicial custody following the death of model Twisha Sharma, who was found hanging at her home on May 12.

Separately, the CBI in Chennai has taken over the 2022 murder case of lawyer Dharavath Nikhil from Suryapet district after a Telangana High Court order. The agency registered the case against multiple suspects, alleging the killing may have been an honour‑based homicide linked to the victim’s inter‑caste relationship. Both probes involve CBI’s Special Task Branch and aim to gather further forensic and investigative evidence.

These actions reflect the CBI’s expanded role in high‑profile criminal matters across India.
