India's CBSE trains 9,000 teachers as Delhi school staff numbers fall

More than 9,000 teachers took part in capacity‑building programmes run by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) during the 2025‑26 academic session. Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar said the CBSE offered 22 skill subjects for classes 9‑10 and 43 for classes 11‑12, integrating skill and vocational education into the school curriculum under the Samagra Shiksha scheme and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

In Delhi, the number of teachers in government schools dropped from 87,000 in 2023‑24 to 83,384 in 2025‑26, a decline of 3,616 or about 4.2 %. Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary explained that recruitment and deployment are the responsibility of state and union‑territory administrations, while the centre provides financial assistance through Samagra Shiksha. The national pupil‑teacher ratios remain within the norms set by NEP 2020.
