India's Census 2027 Self-Enumeration Launches in West Bengal and Assam

The first phase of India's Census 2027 entered its self‑enumeration stage in two eastern states. In West Bengal, the online portal se.census.gov.in opened on August 1 and will remain active until August 15, allowing residents to submit household details without supporting documents. State Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari noted the rollout was delayed under the previous administration.

In Assam, self‑enumeration began on August 2 and will run until August 16, ahead of the door‑to‑door Houselisting Operation starting August 17. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Census officials urged citizens to participate. Preparatory work in the flood‑hit districts of Sivasagar and Charaideo has been suspended. The digital census aims to collect data for policy planning while reducing paper use and field staff workload.
