India's Commerce Secretary to visit Brazil, Argentina, and Chile
Indian Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal is scheduled to conduct a three-nation visit to South America from August 24 to 28. The mission aims to strengthen India’s trade ties within the region.
During the trip, Agrawal will lead joint trade committee meetings with officials from Brazil and Argentina. He will also travel to Chile to progress negotiations regarding the upgrade of the India-Chile Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) into a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
Negotiations for the Chile FTA are reportedly in an advanced stage, with remaining discussions focused on market access and critical minerals. While Chile seeks increased access to Indian markets, India is looking to secure better engagement regarding critical mineral resources. Additionally, India is exploring an expanded PTA with the MERCOSUR bloc, which includes Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Bolivia.
