India's Commonwealth Games 2026 Medal Success Draws Political and Athlete Reactions

Indian boxer Vijender Singh used X to question Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for not publicly congratulating India’s athletes after the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, where the country secured 39 medals (13 gold, 17 silver, 9 bronze) and finished fourth overall. Singh urged political leaders to rise above partisan differences and boost athletes’ morale.

Sports Minister Manasukh Mandaviya met the medal‑winning athletes and praised their performances, stressing that silver and bronze winners should aim for gold. Boxers Jadhumani Singh (silver, 55 kg), Lovlina Borgohain (silver, 75 kg), Sachin Siwach (gold, 60 kg), Preeti Pawar (gold, 54 kg) and judoka Harsh Singh (gold, 60 kg) each expressed satisfaction with their results and a desire to improve in future competitions. India’s boxing team made history by winning seven gold medals, a first for the nation at the Games.
