India's data center growth driven by energy and infrastructure needs

As India's digital economy expands through cloud computing and artificial intelligence, the requirements for data center development are shifting. While state subsidies and land availability were previously the primary incentives for developers, electricity access, water supply, and fiber connectivity have become the critical deciding factors for site selection.

Data centers require high-quality, redundant power to ensure 24-hour operational continuity. The rise of AI workloads has increased power density, with AI-driven server racks consuming more electricity per square meter and generating more heat than traditional enterprise servers. This demand necessitates advanced cooling solutions and massive power blocks, often reaching hundreds of megawatts.

Indian states are adapting their strategies to attract hyperscale campuses. Uttar Pradesh, for example, is looking toward the Bundelkhand region to find larger land parcels and better access to renewable energy, such as solar power, to meet these growing industrial-scale electricity demands.
