India's Delhi‑Jaipur Highway Gets Barrier‑Free Tolling System

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has equipped the Delhi‑Jaipur stretch of National Highway 48 with a Multi‑Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system, making travel on the corridor completely barrier‑free. The rollout at the Shahjahanpur toll plaza completes the upgrade of all three toll plazas on the Manesar‑Jaipur corridor – Daulatpura, Manoharpura and Shahjahanpur.

The MLFF system combines FASTag‑based electronic toll collection with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) to allow vehicles to pass through toll points without stopping. Commuters are required to maintain sufficient FASTag balance; otherwise an electronic notice is issued, payable within 72 hours, with a penalty of double the normal fee for late payment. Officials say the technology will cut waiting times, save fuel, lower emissions, reduce operational costs and improve transparency in toll collection.

The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways to modernise India’s road‑user experience and strengthen the national tolling ecosystem.
