India's Digital Economy Touted as Pillar for Future Economic and Social Progress

Experts at a digital‑payments conclave in New Delhi said the country’s digital economy has become a central driver of India’s future economic and social development. Speakers highlighted the role of digital public infrastructure and digital payments in expanding financial inclusion and improving economic efficiency.

They noted that the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has completed a decade of interoperable, large‑scale growth and called for the next phase to focus on system robustness, backup capabilities and AI‑based fraud detection. Calls were also made for integrated cross‑border payment standards, stronger legal frameworks and proactive cyber‑security measures to counter rising digital fraud, all aligned with the “Developed India 2047” vision for a secure, inclusive and globally competitive digital payments ecosystem.
