India’s Digital Public Infrastructure becomes global model for growth

India’s Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) has emerged as a global blueprint for inclusive growth, according to a new report. Nations across Asia, Africa, and Latin America are reportedly exploring elements of India’s digital architecture to improve service delivery and financial inclusion.

The system is built upon the ‘JAM trinity’, which consists of Jan Dhan bank accounts, Aadhaar digital identity, and widespread mobile connectivity. This foundation has been expanded through platforms such as the India Stack, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), and DigiLocker. These reforms have worked to reduce transaction costs and improve transparency through Direct Benefit Transfer systems.

Additional innovations utilizing this infrastructure include the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission for health, the e-Shram database for unorganized workers, and the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). The report notes that rather than creating isolated services, India has developed an integrated ecosystem that allows for seamless interaction between citizens, businesses, and governments.
