India's Direct Tax Collections Jump 14.6% to ₹5.21 Lakh Crore

India’s net direct tax collections rose 14.64% year‑on‑year to ₹5.21 lakh crore for the period April 1 – June 17 FY27, the Income Tax Department reported. Corporate tax receipts reached ₹2.08 lakh crore, up 22.4%, while non‑corporate taxes, including personal income tax, rose 8.4% to ₹2.93 lakh crore. Revenue from the securities transaction tax (STT) surged 44.9% to ₹18,856 crore, marking one of the fastest‑growing components of direct tax revenue. Tax refunds increased marginally by 1.19% to ₹89,025 crore. Gross direct tax collections crossed the ₹6 lakh crore mark, up 12.46% from the same period a year earlier. Officials said the strong tax performance reflects robust corporate earnings, broader economic activity and improved compliance, bolstering the government’s fiscal position and supporting ongoing infrastructure and welfare spending.
