India's DMK hit with fresh corruption probes while BJP serves rights‑violation notice to opposition leader

The Enforcement Directorate has opened new corruption investigations targeting the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu. Former minister Senthil Balaji and former DASMAG officials were accused of irregularities in liquor procurement, licensing and staffing from 2021‑2025. LAF officers conducted raids at 41 locations across the state, and the Chennai High Court recently set aside Balaji’s petition, prompting a further appeal.

Separately, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lodged a rights‑violation notice against opposition figure Rahul Gandhi after his remarks on student protests in Makalkarai. The notice accuses Gandhi of breaching the rights of students and calls for a higher‑level inquiry into alleged police misconduct.

Both developments underscore heightened political tensions ahead of the upcoming budget session and state elections.
