India's DRI seizes 364 tonnes of Pakistan-origin dry dates at Kandla

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted 13 containers carrying 364 metric tonnes of dry dates at Kandla Port in Gujarat. The consignment, valued at roughly Rs 3 crore, was declared as originating from the United Arab Emirates but investigations showed it had been shipped from Pakistan, routed through Dubai, and then re‑declared to evade India's ban on imports from Pakistan. Under the Customs Act, 1962, the entire shipment was seized.

The Finance Ministry noted that the operation follows a recent DRI action at Tuticorin Port, where about 14 tonnes of Pakistan‑origin Guggul resin were seized after being falsely labeled as Somali natural resin and also routed via Dubai. Two individuals linked to the smuggling schemes have been arrested.
