India's SIR Electoral Roll Revision Accelerates Amid Political Concerns

Deputy Election Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti directed officials in Odisha to complete the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls before the June 28 deadline, reporting that 99.2% of enumeration forms have been distributed and urging completion by June 23‑24. In Telangana, Chief Electoral Officer K Sudharshan Reddy outlined guidelines for the SIR starting June 25, including house‑to‑house visits by Booth Level Officers, online form submission, and the use of the 2002 electoral roll to verify voters without requiring documents during enumeration.

In Andhra Pradesh, YSR Congress Party chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy called for vigilance as the SIR progresses across 28 districts, warning that genuine voters could be removed and alleging that the ruling party is using the MyTDP app to delete opposition supporters. Party leaders have claimed large‑scale voter deletions, citing past incidents and demanding transparency from the Election Commission.
