Election Commission of India sets October 3 deadline for final voter lists in Andhra Pradesh and Haryana

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the timetable for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Andhra Pradesh and Haryana. The qualifying date for both states is July 1, and house‑to‑house verification by Booth Level Officers will run from early June until July 24. Draft electoral rolls will be published on July 31, after which voters can file claims and objections from July 31 to August 30. The notice and disposal phase will continue until September 28, and the final voter lists are scheduled for publication on October 3.

The changes also include extending Andhra Pradesh’s verification deadline by ten days, from the earlier July 14 cut‑off to July 24, to allow completion of digitisation that was only 88 % finished as of mid‑July. Over 4.16 crore enumeration forms have been distributed in the state, and the process has identified large numbers of deceased, migrated, or unavailable voters.

Separately, former Chief Election Commissioner S.Y. Kurtaishi has criticised the SIR process, arguing that it focuses on removing voters rather than including them, which he says harms democratic participation. In Delhi, the SIR rollout is underway with about 93 % of the 1.45 crore electors receiving enumeration forms, and the door‑to‑door phase is set to conclude by July 29.
