Election Commission Schedules West Bengal Rajya Sabha By‑polls Amid TMC Dispute

The Election Commission of India announced that by‑elections for three vacant Rajya Sabha seats from West Bengal will be held on July 24, with voting and counting on the same day. The seats became vacant after rebel Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, Sushmita Dev and Prakash Chik Baraik resigned following the party’s defeat in the state assembly polls.

During the same period, the Commission reported that 110 petitions were filed in the Calcutta High Court challenging its actions in the recent West Bengal assembly election; none resulted in adverse orders. Separately, senior TMC leader Kalyan Banerjee said the party has submitted a detailed response to the Commission regarding the internal leadership dispute, asserting that the party’s National Working Committee remains valid until 2027.

The EC also issued notices for three assembly bye‑elections in Bihar, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, scheduled for July 30.
