India's Election Commission to Review Karnataka Voter List Revision

Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has asked the Election Commission to annul the ongoing Special Incremental Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Karnataka, alleging that the process is being carried out improperly. He claims that instead of door‑to‑door verification, forms are being distributed at welfare centres, and that officials are not following commission guidelines. Parties, including the JD(S), have lodged complaints accusing the state election officers of irregularities and of involving government officials in the SIR.

In response, a central Election Commission team is scheduled to travel to Karnataka to collect information from state election officials, examine the allegations, and prepare a report. The team may consider appointing external overseers or other oversight mechanisms to ensure the SIR's credibility and accuracy.
