India’s electric vehicle market share tops 12% in June 2026
In June 2026, electric vehicles (EVs) accounted for more than 12% of total vehicle retail sales in India, the highest share recorded. Retail sales reached a new peak of 306,220 EVs across all segments.
Passenger EV sales more than doubled year‑on‑year, rising 107.75% to 31,823 units and capturing 7.7% of the passenger‑vehicle market. Electric two‑wheelers grew 74.98% to 193,735 units, raising their market share to 10.6%. Electric three‑wheelers posted 77,448 units, holding 64.1% of three‑wheel sales, while commercial EVs climbed 163.7% to 3,214 units.
Leading manufacturers reported strong performance: TVS sold 47,064 two‑wheelers, Bajaj 43,306, Ather Energy 31,230, and Hero MotoCorp its fastest‑growing two‑wheel segment with 21,820 units. Ola Electric’s sales fell 21.97% to 16,150 units. FADA chairman C.S. Vigneshwar highlighted broader consumer adoption driven by better affordability, expanding charging infrastructure, and a wider product range.
