India's electric vehicle push accelerated by fleet renewal scheme and corporate mobility tie‑up
The Indian Ministry of Road Transport and Highways signed a memorandum of understanding with Mahindra & Mahindra and SML Mahindra to join a national fleet renewal programme aimed at replacing old trucks and buses in the Delhi‑NCR region. The scheme offers an 8% discount on eligible commercial vehicles, a 5% interest subvention, five‑year fuel vouchers and state tax concessions, and together with similar MoUs signed by Ashok Leyland, Switch Mobility and Tata Motors covers roughly 75% of the country's truck market.
Separately, RouteMatic, an AI‑enabled corporate mobility provider, entered a partnership with Green SM, a Vietnamese all‑electric mobility brand, during Green SM’s India launch in New Delhi. Under the agreement RouteMatic will deploy Green SM’s electric vehicles across its corporate fleet operations in major hubs such as Bengaluru, Pune, Hyderabad, Chennai and Delhi‑NCR, helping enterprises reduce fuel consumption and meet sustainability goals. “At RouteMatic, sustainability has been a key pillar of our long‑term mobility vision,” said co‑founder Kavitha Ramachandragowda.
