India targets $250 billion engineering exports and 350 million new jobs by 2030
India is pursuing ambitious economic targets for 2030, aiming to reach $250 billion in engineering goods exports. During recent brainstorming sessions held by the Department of Commerce and EEPC India, officials discussed strategies to bolster global competitiveness despite challenges such as volatile input costs, supply chain disruptions, and evolving sustainability-related trade measures.
Parallel to export goals, India’s manufacturing and service sectors are projected to create over 350 million new jobs by 2030. Key growth sectors include textiles and apparel, which could see 20 million new roles, logistics with 4.7 million, and clean energy with over 4.4 million. The automotive and electric vehicle sectors are expected to add between 2 and 2.5 million jobs, while the telecommunications sector may add 1 million roles.
Experts and industry leaders emphasize that this massive employment shift necessitates a focus on rapid skill development and practical training. To meet the demands of an evolving job market influenced by AI and new technologies, there is an increasing call for educational institutions to provide better industry exposure and technical certifications.
