India's Enforcement Directorate interrogates TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee over primary school recruitment scam

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Kolkata questioned Trinamool Congress national general secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee on June 15 in connection with an alleged primary school teacher recruitment scam. The session lasted more than 11 hours, was video‑recorded, and involved two dozen queries about financial records, digital communications and the role of intermediaries.

The probe also examines alleged forgery of MLAs’ signatures related to the appointment of the Leader of Opposition, and other figures such as former minister Chandranath Sinha have been summoned. Banerjee said the summons aim to weaken opposition forces, while the ED said its focus is tracing money trails and reconciling bank records with statements from other accused.
