India's EPFO expands digital services and slashes pending litigation cases
The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is offering an 8.25% annual interest rate for the FY 2025‑26 and has introduced multiple digital ways for members to check their PF balances, including the official portal, the UMANG mobile app, a missed‑call service (dial 9966044425) and an SMS option (send to 7738299899). The guidance also addresses common technical problems such as UAN activation mismatches, unseeded Member IDs and OTP delivery issues.
In parallel, EPFO has launched mission‑mode drives to clear its litigation backlog. Under the “Nidhi Aapke Nikat” programme, consumer court cases fell from 4,936 to 2,646, and total pending cases across courts dropped from 31,036 to 27,639, the lowest ever recorded. Cases older than ten years were reduced by about 45%, and appeals before Central Government Industrial Tribunals saw 353 disposals with more than 600 pending. The organisation also announced a new verified WhatsApp channel to field member queries in local languages, providing 24/7 automated assistance.
