India's EPFO launches EPFO 3.0 platform for instant PF withdrawals

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced EPFO 3.0, a digital overhaul approved by the Central Board of Trustees and the Ministry of Labour and Employment. The new system, slated for rollout by mid‑2026, aims to compress Provident Fund (PF) withdrawal times from weeks to minutes for its over 30 crore members.

Key features include auto‑settlement of claims up to ₹5 lakh, instant withdrawals via UPI or a dedicated EPFO ATM card, and the removal of employer attestation when a member’s UAN is Aadhaar‑linked and KYC‑compliant. Withdrawal categories have been simplified to three broad groups, and members can access up to 75 % of their balance after one month of unemployment, with at least 25 % always locked. Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya confirmed that testing of the UPI gateway is complete and the service will be launched soon.

The initiative also adds a WhatsApp chatbot for balance checks and integrates with the UMANG app for eligibility verification, aiming to make PF claims paperless and frictionless for the nation’s workforce.
