EPFO restores PF passbook portal, enabling balance checks and UAN activation via UMANG app

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has reopened its online passbook portal after a two‑week maintenance window that included a major database consolidation and software upgrade. Members can now log in to view their current‑year transaction history and account balances; records from earlier years are being migrated and will appear within the next few days.

The portal’s relaunch comes ahead of the scheduled 8.25 % annual interest credit for the FY2025‑26, which EPFO expects to begin depositing into accounts from July 15. Additionally, EPFO has shifted the activation of the Universal Account Number (UAN) from the web portal to the UMANG mobile application, requiring Aadhaar‑based face authentication for added security.

While member and employer services are restored, EPFO cautioned that claim processing and other service requests may experience delays of up to two weeks as additional verification checks are completed. The newly notified Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) Scheme 2026 also introduced a minimum‑balance rule of 25 % for partial withdrawals, applicable to both employee and employer contributions.
