India's EPFO Restores Passbook Portal and Launches Automatic PF Transfer System

The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) in India has reopened its Passbook portal after a two‑week shutdown for database consolidation and software upgrades (June 26–July 1, 2026). Members can now view balances, recent transactions and a new "Passbook Lite" view on the unified portal. The Union Labour Minister confirmed that an 8.25% per‑annum interest rate for FY 2025‑26 has begun crediting more than 340 million accounts and will appear in passbooks by July 15.

EPFO also changed UAN activation procedures: activation must now be done through the UMANG app using Aadhaar‑linked facial authentication. In parallel, the organisation introduced an automatic PF transfer feature. Eligible members with an Aadhaar‑verified UAN will have balances moved to a new employer’s account without submitting a separate transfer request. Employees are advised to verify their Service History on the portal to ensure correct linking of all PF member IDs. These reforms are part of EPFO's broader digital modernisation on the Centralised IT Enabled Services (CITES) platform.
