India's e‑Shram portal registers 317.8 million unorganised workers
India's Ministry of Labour and Employment reports that over 317.8 million unorganised workers have been registered on the e‑Shram portal as of 14 July 2026. The portal, launched on 26 August 2021, creates a National Database of Unorganised Workers (NDUW) and provides a self‑declared Universal Account Number to gig, platform and migrant workers.
State‑specific e‑Shram microsites were introduced on 29 January 2025 to tailor registration, data updates and verification to local needs. The e‑Shram "One‑Stop‑Solution", launched on 21 October 2024, integrates fifteen central schemes—including pension, skill development and job‑matching services—allowing workers to access multiple social‑security benefits through a single platform.
