India's Favorable View of the United States Falls to 45% in Pew Survey

A Pew Research Centre survey conducted from February to May this year shows that favorable opinions of the United States among Indians dropped to 45%, down from 54% a year earlier. Negative views rose to 31%. Only 18% of respondents approved of President Donald Trump's tariff policies that affected India, and confidence that Trump would do the right thing in world affairs fell sharply from 52% to 39%, with 36% expressing no confidence. Russian President Vladimir Putin received the highest level of confidence among Indians at 51%, followed by Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu (34%), France's Emmanuel Macron (33%), Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelensky (20%) and China's Xi Jinping (25%). Nearly half (47%) thought the United States interferes in other countries' affairs to a great or fair degree. Across the 36‑country sample, a median of 57% held a negative view of the United States.
