India's food regulator cracks down on brands and adulterated milk supply

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued formal notices to several food companies, including Bikanervala, Marico Ltd (Saffola Heart Pro oil), Ferrero India (Kinder Joy), and others, over alleged misleading product claims, labelling violations and consumer complaints. The regulator demanded explanations, corrective actions and reports to ensure compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act.

In a separate operation, FSSAI officials intercepted more than 30 milk tankers transporting unlicensed, suspected adulterated milk from Tamil Nadu into Bengaluru. The raid uncovered shipments lacking proper refrigeration, licences or traceability, raising concerns about bacterial growth and possible additives used to increase volume. Samples have been sent for laboratory testing, and notices were issued to the implicated distributors.

Both actions highlight heightened enforcement by Indian food authorities to safeguard consumer health and curb unsafe or deceptive food practices.
