India's FSSAI issues notices to food brands for misleading label claims

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued formal notices to a number of food businesses for alleged violations of labelling regulations, accusing them of using misleading brand names, trade names and product claims that could deceive consumers. Companies cited include Healthy Master, Neuherbs (True Vitamin), Plant B, The Health Factory, Troovy, Healthy Choice, Emami’s Healthy & Tasty, Health Aid, Organic Wisdom, Shine Organic, Two Brothers Organic Farms, Storia, World of Organic and Iota Water. The regulator flagged terms such as “True Vitamin,” “organic,” “vegan” and “healthy” as potentially misleading because they either lack defined meaning under existing rules or are used without the required certifications, Jaivik Bharat logo or vegan endorsements.

FSSAI warned the firms to comply strictly with the Food Safety and Standards Act of 2006 and related labelling norms, stating, “These FBOs are directed to strictly comply with the established labelling and display regulations to prevent consumer deception.” The crackdown is part of a broader effort to ensure that health, nutritional and organic claims on packaged foods are verifiable and not used to mislead shoppers.

Affected brands have been instructed to correct any non‑compliant labelling and to obtain the necessary approvals before using such claims in the future.
