India's fuel supply stays stable despite global disruptions, minister says
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said India's fuel retail network, now about 107,000 outlets serving 60‑70 million customers daily, remained fully resilient during recent global supply shocks. Intensive testing of E20 ethanol‑blended petrol found only four contamination cases out of roughly 2,000 daily samples, and no station ran dry even when shipping through the Strait of Hormuz was disrupted.
Puri highlighted that India expanded its crude sourcing from 27 to 41 countries, increased strategic reserves to roughly 74 days, and boosted domestic LPG production from 34,000 to 55,000 tonnes per day, with the United States supplying about 67 % of LPG imports. He also noted the government's Rs 84,000 crore Samudra Manthan programme to support private deep‑water oil and gas exploration, offering up to 50 % of drilling costs.
Overall, the minister credited diversified imports, expanded refining capacity, and a growing retail network—up from 52,000 outlets in 2014—to keep fuel prices affordable and ensure uninterrupted supply for Indian consumers.
