India’s Ganderbal District Prepares for 2027 Census

Chief Principal Census Officer Amit Sharma and senior officials held a review meeting in Ganderbal, Jammu & Kashmir, to assess progress of the House Listing Operations (HLO) for the 2027 Census. The district has completed creation and demarcation of all House Listing blocks on the CMMS portal, and field work is proceeding smoothly. Training for enumerators, self‑enumeration drives, and awareness campaigns have been undertaken, with special attention to migratory and seasonal populations such as Gujjar and Bakarwal communities.

Sharma urged residents to provide exact household information, warning that all responses will be cross‑checked and that the Census will collect only the prescribed 33 questions, not personal identifiers like Aadhaar or bank details. He highlighted that the digital, paper‑less Census will underpin development planning for the next decade, influencing allocation of welfare funds, infrastructure projects and public services. Special teams will map high‑altitude camps after June 15, and officials cautioned the public against fraud by verifying Census personnel IDs and QR codes.
