India's global image varies widely according to Pew Research survey

A Spring 2026 Global Attitudes Survey conducted by the Pew Research Center reveals significant regional variations in how India is perceived globally. Across 36 countries surveyed, the median favorability rating for India stands at 45%, while 41% of respondents expressed an unfavorable view.

Perceptions vary sharply by geography. Sri Lanka emerged as India’s strongest supporter, with 79% of respondents holding a favorable opinion. In contrast, favorability in Pakistan was recorded at just 7%. While India maintains positive standing in the United Kingdom, Germany, Kenya, and parts of Europe, its image in the United States has shown signs of weakening.

The survey, which involved over 42,000 participants, suggests that while India enjoys broad international recognition and growing strategic importance, its global reputation remains deeply divided along geopolitical lines.
