Chennai records highest gold and silver prices among Indian cities

Gold and silver prices in India rose on June 14, with the national spot price of 24‑karat gold reaching about ₹149,961 per 10 grams, a gain of roughly 0.7%, while silver rose 0.74% to ₹241,425 per 10 grams. In the retail market, Chennai posted the highest city‑wise rates, with 24‑karat gold at ₹15,120 per gram and silver at ₹2,70,000 per kilogram, outpacing other major metros such as Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata where prices were slightly lower. Across the country the average 24‑karat price remained steady at ₹14,908 per gram (₹1,49,080 per 10 grams) and 22‑karat gold at ₹13,665 per gram (₹1,36,650 per 10 grams). Crude oil prices fell 1.57% to ₹8,213 per barrel, while base metals and natural gas showed modest movements. Traders cited the U.S. dollar and global commodity trends as key drivers, and investors continued to view gold as a hedge against inflation.
