India's GRSE Wins ONGC Contract for Four Hybrid Platform Supply Vessels
Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd (GRSE), a Navratna defence public‑sector undertaking under India’s Ministry of Defence, received a Notification of Award from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) on 30 July 2026. The contract calls for the design, construction and delivery of four platform supply vessels (PSVs) to support offshore exploration and production. Each vessel will be about 80 metres long, 20 metres wide, with a dead‑weight capacity of 3,000 tonnes, a clear deck of roughly 650 sq m and an endurance of 45 + 3 days.
The PSVs will incorporate an advanced hybrid propulsion system that combines electrically driven azimuth thrusters with a lithium‑ion battery energy‑storage system. This architecture is intended to improve fuel efficiency, enable dynamic positioning, provide spinning reserve and enhance emergency response while reducing environmental impact. The order expands GRSE’s commercial shipbuilding portfolio, reinforces India’s indigenous maritime manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, and contributes to the country’s offshore energy infrastructure. GRSE, with more than six decades of experience, has built over 800 platforms, including 118 warships for the Indian Navy, Coast Guard and foreign customers.
