India's Health Minister JP Nadda Highlights MSME Role in Pharma Self‑Reliance

On 25 July, Health Minister JP Nadda opened the LUB Pharma Conclave‑2026 at the India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. The event, themed “Roadmap for the Pharma Sector for Developed India‑2047,” emphasized accelerating India’s self‑reliance in drug manufacturing.

Nadda said micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) will be crucial for producing affordable medicines, bulk drugs, vaccines and medical devices in the coming years. He noted that India contributes about 60 percent of global vaccine output and accounts for roughly $30 billion in pharma exports. The minister urged manufacturers to prioritise quality over quantity and to strictly adhere to regulatory standards.

Senior officials, including Pharma Department Secretary Manoj Joshi and Drug Controller General of India Rajiv Singh Raghuwanshi, underscored compliance and highlighted recent regulatory updates. The conclave also honoured five entrepreneurs who rose from MSME beginnings to large‑scale corporate success.
