India's Income Tax e‑Filing Portal Remains Stable Amid Peak Traffic, Infosys Penalised

The Ministry of Finance told Parliament that the Income Tax e‑Filing portal handled record traffic during the 8‑14 July 2026 filing week, with daily ITR submissions topping 12 lakh and total portal activity exceeding 1.6 crore actions on the busiest day. While occasional slow page responses and brief delays may occur during peak usage, officials said the system overall performed efficiently and remained stable.

In response to a Lok Sabha unstarred question, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary confirmed that the government is aware of past technical glitches, data‑processing errors and login failures. The minister outlined remedial steps and disclosed that contractual penalties have been imposed on the portal’s managed service provider, Infosys, for delays and performance shortcomings under the Integrated e‑Filing and Centralised Processing Centre (IEC 2.0) project.
