India's industrial production rises 5.1% as Modi visits Seychelles

India’s industrial output accelerated to a five‑month high of 5.1% in May 2026, helped by a 5.5% rise in manufacturing and a 9.9% jump in electricity generation. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation introduced a revised Index of Industrial Production, replacing the Wholesale Price Index with the Producer Price Index for selected outputs and using 2022‑23 as the new base year.

In a separate development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded a three‑day state visit to the Seychelles, the first in 11 years, underscoring India’s diplomatic outreach in the Indian Ocean region. During the visit, both leaders discussed cooperation on maritime security, trade, and climate resilience.

Other notable actions include the launch of a digital portal to audit rural development schemes, a controversy in Kerala over the use of the PMAY logo in state‑run housing, and a CBI operation that raided 80 locations nationwide, arresting two suspects linked to a “digital arrest” fraud scheme.
