India's internal security landscape has changed irrevocably, says Home Secretary
Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan stated that India's conventional internal security landscape has changed irrevocably. Speaking at the Sardar Vallabhbhai National Police Academy in Hyderabad during the Dikshant Parade for the 78th Regular Recruit batch of the Indian Police Service (IPS), Mohan highlighted a shift in national security challenges.
Mohan noted that while militant Naxalism has largely ended and insurgency in the North East has been reduced to minimal levels, new threats are emerging. He identified narcotics, cybercrime, illegal immigration, and social media-driven issues—such as deepfake videos and fake messages—as critical modern challenges that require creative, lawful solutions.
Sharing a message from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Mohan emphasized a policy of zero tolerance toward terrorism, the importance of time-bound action, and improved intelligence coordination. The message also highlighted the Smart Border Initiative, which utilizes modern techniques, integrated surveillance, and digital systems to secure borders.
